Maintenance tips

Clean panels in the morning or evening

Avoid cleaning during peak sun hours to prevent thermal shock and stay safe

Use soft brushes and plain water

Harsh chemicals or abrasive materials can damage panel coatings and reduce efficiency

Never climb on roof without proper safety equipment

Ask your installer about panel cleaning if you're uncomfortable working at heights

Monitor production regularly

Sudden drops in production often indicate issues that need attention

Upgrade or replace

See what adding to or replacing your system would do

If the system is near the end of its life, or you're thinking about a battery, the free energy audit report sizes a new system for your actual bills and shows what a replacement would do. Your first results need no details; your details only reach installers if you ask for the full report.

Common questions

My inverter is showing an error code. What does it mean?

Pick your brand in the error code lookup, or browse the codes for your brand below. Each code shows the meaning, the likely cause and what the manufacturer's manual says an owner can do, taken from that manual.

Who do I call when my solar system stops working?

Your installer is your first warranty contact. If they've gone, the manufacturer's warranty line still covers the hardware. WattMate doesn't do repairs or site visits.

Is it worth repairing an old system, or should I replace it?

It depends on the system's age, what the fault is and what you use. The free energy audit report sizes a new system for your actual bills and shows whether keeping, adding to or replacing what you have makes sense.
