A plain description of the cookies WattMate actually sets — essential ones, plus Google Analytics only if you accept it.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit our website. We keep the list short: WattMate only sets cookies needed to keep you signed in, keep forms secure, and carry your in-progress calculator or quote details between pages.

We run Google Analytics, but only after you accept it on the cookie banner — if you decline, or haven’t chosen yet, the Google Analytics script is never loaded and no _ga cookie is set. We do not run advertising pixels or marketing cookies on WattMate. See “Site analytics” below for the cookieless tools we use as well.

What we store on your device

Essential cookies

Required for login, security, and core site functionality

Supabase session cookies — keep you signed in to a portal
CSRF token — verifies form submissions came from our own pages
Quote checker / org-switch session state while you use a tool

Functional cookie

Carries your in-progress journey between our tools

`ws_journey` — a first-party cookie that remembers information you've already given us (postcode, calculator inputs) so you don't have to re-enter it on the next page or a linked WattMate tool
Stores only what you've volunteered — not used for advertising or shared with ad networks
Expires after 30 days, or clears automatically once you submit a lead

Your cookie banner choice

Not a cookie: your analytics answer, kept in your browser's local storage

`wattmate_cookie_consent`: records whether you accepted or declined analytics on the cookie banner, so you are not asked again on every page
Held in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie, so it is never sent to our servers with a request
It has no expiry date. It stays until you change your answer, or until you clear this site's stored site data

Site analytics (no cookie involved)

WattMate measures traffic with Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights. Both are cookieless — they don’t set a persistent identifier on your device and don’t track you across other sites.

Google Analytics is different: it does set cookies, so it is opt-in. Your choice on the cookie banner controls it. That choice is not itself a cookie: it is remembered in your browser's local storage under wattmate_cookie_consent, so clearing this site's cookies will not reset it. To change your mind, clear this site's stored site data from your browser's site settings, and the banner will ask again.

Managing cookies in your browser

Analytics cookies are controlled by the cookie banner. Every other cookie WattMate sets is essential or functional, so for those the only control is your browser's own cookie settings. Clearing cookies for this site will sign you out and reset any in-progress calculator/quote details.

Note: clearing essential cookies will sign you out of any portal and may break in-progress forms.
