Installer compliance & verification

WattMate is an independent marketplace, not a licensed electrical contractor. We don't design or install solar systems — we connect WA homeowners with installers we've checked. Here's exactly what we verify before we match you with anyone.

Last updated: 10 July 2026

WattMate is a marketplace, not an installer

We connect Western Australian homeowners with independent solar installers. The design, the installation, the electrical work, and the warranty all sit with the installer you choose — WattMate is not a party to that contract.

Because we don't do the installation ourselves, the compliance that matters is the installer's. Our job is to verify it up front and keep checking it, so every installer we put in front of you meets WA's legal requirements.

What we verify in every installer

Current WA electrical contractor licence

Solar can only be installed and connected by a licensed WA electrician. We check the installer holds a current electrical contractor licence with Building and Energy (WA) before we match them with you.

SAA accreditation

Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA) — the body appointed by the Clean Energy Regulator in 2024. SAA accreditation is mandatory for the installer to claim your STC rebate, and it confirms they are trained to the current installation standards.

Appropriate insurance

We record the installer's insurance details, including public liability. The cover is the installer's own — WattMate does not provide, underwrite, or guarantee any insurance on the work.

Valid ABN

We verify the installer's Australian Business Number against the Australian Business Register, so you know exactly which business you are contracting with.

We re-check these credentials periodically and stop matching any installer who lets them lapse — regardless of the referral revenue they generate. We don't, however, guarantee the quality of any installer's work, so always compare multiple quotes and check reviews before you decide.

Standards your installer must meet

These are the Australian Standards a compliant WA solar install must follow. WattMate doesn't perform the work — the SAA accreditation and electrical licence we verify confirm your installer is trained and authorised to meet them.

  • AS/NZS 5033 — installation and safety requirements for solar PV arrays
  • AS/NZS 4777.1 — grid connection of energy systems through inverters
  • AS/NZS 3000 — electrical installations (the Wiring Rules)
  • Solar Accreditation Australia installation guidelines and WA's electrical safety rules

Your consumer protections

Your rights under Australian Consumer Law

Your statutory consumer guarantees apply to the installer you contract with. Nothing on this page — and nothing WattMate does — reduces or replaces those rights.

Transparent pricing

WattMate is free for WA homeowners. Installers pay a flat $30 inc GST referral fee, never added to your quote. See our disclosure for the exact numbers and why it keeps us independent.

Your contract is with the installer

Read the cooling-off and cancellation terms before you sign. The installation contract, workmanship warranty, and insurance all sit with the installer — not with WattMate.

What we don't claim

  • We do not hold electrical contractor licences — WattMate is not an electrical contractor in any state.
  • We do not design, install, wire, or maintain solar systems. Licensed installers do that.
  • We do not inspect or sign off the physical installation — your installer's licensed electrician does, under WA's electrical safety rules.
  • We do not guarantee an installer's workmanship. Always compare multiple quotes and check reviews before you decide.
  • We do not provide product warranties or insurance — those sit with the manufacturer and the installer.
